FAQs when hiring an apprentice

Below you'll find the answers to the questions about hiring apprentices we get asked the most by Host Employers.

Am I eligible for incentives as a Community Solutions host employer?

You may be. At different times the Government offers incentives for host employers, and apprentices and trainees. Incentives are based on a range of criteria and guidelines. So, to find out if you’re eligible, please speak to one of our field representatives. Call 1300 621 499.

Do I get to choose my apprentice or trainee?

Yes. We supply you with a selection of candidates who meet our screening benchmarks. You get to make the final decision on the best candidate for your business and team.

Do I need to host the apprentice or trainee for the whole apprenticeship?

No, we understand your business needs can change. While long term hosting does has benefits for both your business and the apprentice or trainee. But, one of the key benefits of hosting through us is flexibility. You’re not locked into a hosting agreement.

Do you provide school-based apprenticeships and traineeships?

Yes. We have school-based apprenticeships and traineeships in a range of industries. Our school-based apprentices and trainees generally do one day of paid work per week and may increase their hours on weekends or in school holidays.

What’s the difference between an apprentice and trainee?

Apprenticeships provide a qualification in industries, such as Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing, Cabinet Making, Boilermaking, Mechanical, Diesel Fitting and Commercial Cookery.

Traineeships provide a qualification in a profession such as Business, Hospitality (front of house), Retail, Food Processing, Agriculture and Warehousing.

We found our own candidate, can we put them on through Community Solutions?

Yes!  Please contact one of our experienced field representatives to discuss the options.

How do you invoice my business?

You only pay when your apprentice or trainee is at work. The hourly rate includes:

  • wages
