Am I eligible for Disability Employment Services?

Disability Employment Services (DES) opens doors to people with disability, injury or illness who wish to find and keep work. But how do you know if you’re eligible for the program? Take our quiz below.

What makes you eligible for the DES program?

A job seeker is eligible for DES if they:

  • have a disability, mental ill-health, injury ora health condition
  • are aged at least 14 years and have not yet reached the Age Pension age (currently 67 years)
  • are at or above the minimum legal working age in their State or Territory
  • can work for or have a future work capacity of at least 8 hours
  • are in receipt of income support payments, such as: Parenting Payments, Carers Payment (not allowance), Job seeker payment or DSP or you are ESAt/JCA exempt and are within the following cohorts
    • are a current NDIS participant
    • are a pre-release prisoner; or
    • are participating in a Disability Employment Service program of support
  • are an Australian resident
  • are not studying full time (unless the job seeker is an Eligible School Leaver)

Residency requirements

DES job seekers must be one of the below:

  • an Australian citizen
  • the holder of a Permanent Resident Visa
  • the holder of a Temporary Protection Visa
  • the holder of a Special Category Visa.
