When Leah moved to Townsville in July 2024, she had one clear goal in mind: to find meaningful, sustainable employment that would provide her with stability and purpose. For Leah, this wasn’t just about securing a job, it was about transforming her life and building a brighter future. With the dedicated support of Community Solutions Disability Employment Services (DES), Leah not only achieved that goal but did so faster than she ever imagined possible!

Leah’s journey with Community Solutions began on 9 July 2024. From the moment she joined, our team was fully committed to understanding her aspirations, strengths, and challenges. Together, we worked to identify job opportunities that aligned with her unique skills, interests, and needs. Through a series of introductions and carefully planned meetings with local employers, Leah was introduced to Dan’s Gardening and Landscaping. This was a pivotal moment in her journey, as it presented her with an exciting chance to explore a career in a new industry.

Leah completed a work trial with Dan’s Gardening and Landscaping on 19 July 2024. The experience was transformative, both for Leah and her future employer. It was immediately clear that this was a perfect fit. Leah’s dedication, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn stood out during the trial, so much so that she was offered casual work right after completing it!

To ensure Leah felt supported and confident in her new role, we provided her with comprehensive assistance during the crucial initial weeks on the job. Landscaping is a physically demanding profession, especially in Townsville’s warm climate, so we stepped in to help Leah overcome any challenges she faced. This included providing her with personal protective equipment (PPE), a cooling vest to combat the heat, and petrol vouchers to ease her commute.

Although Leah had never worked in landscaping before, she approached the role with unwavering commitment and determination. She embraced the opportunity to learn new skills, pushing herself through long, hot days outdoors. Her resilience and dedication quickly became evident, and her efforts did not go unnoticed

By 5 August 2024, less than a month after her initial work trial, Leah achieved an incredible milestone, she was offered permanent employment. This achievement marked a turning point in her journey, solidifying her path to a secure and sustainable future. Leah was overjoyed, expressing how much it meant to her to have ongoing, stable work that she could truly rely on.

“It’s great to have sustainable, ongoing, secure employment,” Leah shared, reflecting on her success and the support that helped her get there.

Now thriving in her role, Leah has not only adapted to her responsibilities but is managing them independently with confidence and skill. While our team continues to check in regularly to ensure Leah maintains a healthy work-life balance, her growth and transformation speak volumes about her perseverance. Leah is a shining example of how the combination of DES support and personal determination can lead to life-changing outcomes.

We couldn’t be prouder of Leah and all that she has accomplished. Her journey serves as an inspiring reminder of the incredible potential within everyone to achieve their goals with the right support and mindset.
