What is Skilling Queenslanders for Work?   

Skilling Queenslanders for Work is a Queensland Government initiative to assist Queenslanders gain skills, qualifications, and experience to enter and stay in the workforce. The initiative supports up to 15,000 unemployed Queenslanders and funds community organisations to deliver training programs.  

There are a variety of programs within this initiative including Community Work Skills, Work Skills Traineeships, Ready for Work, Get Set for Work, Youth Skills, Community Foundation Skills, Skill Up and First Start. Each program is committed to increasing workforce participation, driving job growth, improving skills development and work opportunities.  

Who can access Skilling Queenslanders for Work?  

Skilling Queenslanders for Work is designed to support unemployed and underemployed Queenslanders who face barriers to entering the workforce. The initiative prioritises young people, including those transitioning from out-of-home care, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, individuals with disabilities, mature-age job seekers, women re-entering the workforce, veterans and ex-Australian Defence Force members and their families, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and recently released prisoners. By focusing on these groups, the program ensures that tailored training and support are accessible to those who need it most.  

Community Solutions delivering SQW in your community  

In partnership with the Queensland Government, Community Solutions delivers the Community Work Skills program throughout Queensland in communities such as Maryborough, Mackay, Rockhampton and Hervey Bay.  

This program delivers tailored support and assistance to participants to help them gain nationally recognised skills and qualifications. Community Solutions offers a variety of career pathways with a focus on local industries with high growth. Some of the nationally recognised qualifications available include:  

Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing)  

This entry-level qualification offers you a career in aged care. It provides the skills needed to deliver individualised support and care to people in home, community, or health care settings.  

Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care  

This qualification is for people interested in early childhood education and care. You will gain the skills and knowledge to support children’s wellbeing and development in approved learning environments.  

Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability)  

This certification supports a career in the disability industry through accredited training and practical work placement. This opens employment opportunities within community care, residential facilities and day respite support.  

Certificate II in Infrastructure and Resources Work Preparation  

This training supports you in entering a rewarding career in Resource, Infrastructure or Construction and teaches routine tasks, limited practical skills, and responsibility for work quality.  

Certificate III in Business  

This qualification prepares you for a business career, gaining core administrative, operational, clerical, and routine procedural skills. You’ll learn to apply these with theoretical knowledge for decision-making.  

Certificate III in Hospitality  

This course supports the establishment of a career in hospitality, with accredited training and practical work placement. This opens employment opportunities within guest services, housekeeping, food and beverage attending and more.

These skills become particularly handy when faced with difficult situations or confrontations. We will provide you with the tools to help you communicate succinctly and effectively.  

Support with overcoming barriers  

There are many types of barriers that can make it difficult to get employment or keep employment. Some of these may include transport, childcare, language barriers or mental health challenges. At Community Solutions, we’ll help you overcome these barriers by providing you with advice and access to community services that will support you in getting into the workforce.  

Connections with local employers  

Not only are we committed to supporting you get into the workforce, but we are also eager to build connections with local employers that offer you employment opportunities and support their business growth.
