Wage subsidies are payments made to employers who hire eligible jobseekers through Workforce Australia. They are designed to:

• Offset initial wage and onboarding costs
• Reduce hiring risk
• Support sustainable, long-term employment

Wage subsidies are fully funded by the Australian Government and are available across a wide range of industries and roles.

Subsidy amounts, eligibility, and payment structures vary depending on the job seeker and role.

Eligibility is assessed on a case-by-case basis. Both the business and the job seeker must meet certain requirements.

Business eligibility may include:

• A current Australian Business Number (ABN)
• An offer of ongoing employment (full-time, part-time, or eligible casual roles)
• Compliance with workplace and employment standards
• No prior wage subsidy claimed for the same role

Job seeker eligibility may include:

• Registration with Workforce Australia
• People who are long-term unemployed
• Young jobseekers
• Mature-age workers
• First Nations Australians
• Principal carer parents
• Other eligible participant groups
