Following the success of the initial course, a second series of gardening workshops will shine a spotlight on growing healthy, fresh produce, when they commence in Kawana in June.
Hosted by Community Solutions in the Eastbank Edible Garden, the free workshops will be available to the public, and will vary from one to six sessions in length.
Community Solutions’ Service Leader Tendai Dawkins said the sessions aimed to encourage community members to adopt healthy eating practices, engage in physical activity and embrace greater community connectedness.
“Essentially, the workshops aim to increase the knowledge and skills of community members in relation to food production, meal planning and preparation,” she said.
The sessions will be available to up to 30 participants and will cover topics including edible garden design, soil improvement and garden maintenance. Alternatively, participants can sign up for a six week “Grow your own” series, exploring the fundamentals of sustainable gardening practices.
